Author Topic: help me: how to use a xbox controller for pc for games?  (Read 2660 times)

ok so, I've got the controller, and microsoft's lame drivers. but they suck. I also don't want to spend money on something like xpadder, unless I have to
but something like xpadder is exactly what I need, and I don't know of any alternatives, which is what I need help with

also, idk if my headsets are just broken or if there's something wrong with the driver, bc they aren't working right. the driver does seem to recognize that one is plugged in tho, so I doubt it's a problem with the controller

is your controller wired? if not you need a wireless adaptor which you can pick up cheap on amazon.

is your controller wired?
yes. but even if it weren't, I think I implied well enough that it works in general
like, for garry's mod, it works just fine, but gmod isn't really a good game to use a controller with considering all its buttons. unless you were playing like TTT or something, then it'd be alright

what exactly isn't working? I use a wired controller with microsoft's drivers and it works perfectly.

you talked about headsets so this link might help

i think if you want the joysticks and the triggers to work you need something like xpadder, but games like csgo have gamepad software built in

You could try using a program like easy mouse joy.

for most things it works fine. but for certain games that I want to use it with, it doesn't. for example, in UT2004, the left stick does what it should, but the camera is constantly moving to the lower left and the right stick does nothing. I didn't try shooting a gun.
and in other games, like blockland, there isn't even an option for enabling joystick control. like gmod, blockland isn't the best game for controllers either, but still there are gamemodes where you might as well

which is even more expensive than xpadder

games need controller support for it to just naturally work, blockland for example doesn't have this so you can't use a controller with it

however you can use a free program like JoyToKey to map your controller inputs to keys.

But what if you use Xpadder to bind the controller buttons to the keys on the keyboard? Wouldn't that work alright-ish?

that's what I mean, things like that. thanks

see: the second part of that post

(yes)

Speaking of Xpadder, i plugged my Xbox controller in with the charger wire, it detected pretty much all of the buttons, but not the joysticks, why is that?

I think the arrow buttons did the same as the joystick anyway, but think that's how it's suppose to be since that's how it is normally, yes?
