Author Topic: Blockland forums topic and reply rating system? (WARNING: OPINIONS)  (Read 1527 times)

Hello Blocklanders, I wanted to ask you what your opinion of a rating system for topics and replies would do for our forums if for some reason Badspot actually did implement one? I neither endorse nor disapprove of said system, but it would still be interesting to hear what you all think. If said system was implemented, what restrictions and guidelines would have to be implemented (IE: Limited number of downvotes per time period, loss of spam permission for a certain user due to abusive spam reporting, etc. etc.)

this idea if you think about it

imagine the stuff

There's no logical reason to add in that from scratch. No one here is at risk of downloading a virus from another member, so "rep" systems like that of Hackforums and other websites like that would be unneeded. And we wouldn't need an "upvote" system like that of Reddit because there's no front page, so it'd all just be vanity and grudges.

Upboat!!!11!

With a voting system, idiots who don't have any good reason to support something have equal say as everyone else, because one of them posts something stupid and they all vote it up.

Without a voting system people actually have to defend what they post and be reasonable to have any say.

For example: If you had a poll in a topic (where no one could reply) about the user Kaje and the options were along the lines of "Cool guy" and "Loser" you might get a lot of "Loser" because the majority of people might be uninformed and not know who he is. However, if you had a discussion about the user Kaje, you would get a positive response, because some users know who he is, and those who don't would have no backing to call him a loser and would quickly join the informed as the discussion progressed.

I would love to see FP's rating system here.

everyone who hates a specific user would just downvote them and if someone who is worshipped posted it would be voted up

it would not work

post rating sounds okay, but personal reputation would be bad

I agree with Tingalz. We don't need another e-peen ranker. :(
But it might stop people from saying "this." and "Sig'd" without any other real content to their posts.
