No but really, to practice, I would try extrusion modeling. Start with a face - a square or whatever. Then you can select vertices and extrude them outward, building upon your shape.


1.) what kind of applications do you guys use?
2.) what would you reccomend for a beginner modeler?
3.) what's a good way to practice modeling?
4.) given that I stick with it and become good, IF I do, are there BETTER modeling applications?
5.) are there certain techniques or tips you might have for a beginner?
6.) is it possible to make a whole model (for instance, replicate a blockhead), then add a second model to it? (armor, weapons, etc)
7.) is it possible for a model to move? (I'm assuming it is because of the reload animations on some gun add-ons)
8.) anything extra you think is helpful

1-Blender
2-Go to the general blender help thread in mod help discussion, do all the stuff it says, then go to blendercookie.com for more experience.
3-Model your fav stuff, or watch other's modeling styles.
4-Yeah, CAD, product design, etc.
5-Don't start with a flat outline of your model, start with a cube, and then detail it from there, be proportional with your model, and compare yours to others to get it right.
