Author Topic: fake kill + collision  (Read 1440 times)

all i want to say is...

i think that if fake killed bricks had an option to be collideable there could be many more features, like:

standing on pushable blocks.

avalanches that can kill. ( with an "on player touch - player - kill" event )

traps for deathruns!

LOADS MORE FEATURES!

i am tired at the moment and cant think of many more, feel free to talk about ideas with this too

if this is even possible, i would love to find out, because this would be a great feature to blockland.

Fake kill bricks are rendered by the client. So they behave differently for everyone on the server. So as much as I would like this I'm pretty sure it's not possible.

well...

that is a great disappointment.

mushroom man. are you sure???  I'M pretty sure that the fake killed bricks are all the same for each player in the server. (i may be wrong but i DO believe that everyone sees the same for the fake killed brick)

He's right.
Fakekilled bricks are clientsided, in fact there's an option to turn them off.
If it were server-sided, the game wouldn't be able to handle it without lagging out or crashing.
Imagine 256k bricks fakekilling in a matter of 30 seconds clientside.
Bit much, eh?
Now put that server-sided, and you've got yourself a melted HDD

Imagine if you checked for collision on each fake killed brick

This 11 second video came from a 5 minute recording. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJS3NQRgcy8

That is probably the kind of lag you could expect.

Of course, you probably don't want to knock over an entire build at once... but give everyone rocket launchers, and that's the kind of difference you'll start to see.

heheh rampaging vehicles in the acm city

but of coarse you wouldn't do that to 1000 bricks like in the video, you would think ahead and only have 1 - 15 blocks for the server.

( but if some noob joins and decides " gee, i feel like being a complete moron and spawning 10000's of blocks with fake kill + collision. " then your in some trouble. spam, to an entire new scale! )

Note that fakekill w/ collision applies to almost every brick when it's turned on.
And last I checked, a couple of explosives, even one in the right area can cause a bit of a scatter.
That would probably result in a bit of undesired lag.
