Author Topic: Am I the only one who doesn't unrender bricks?  (Read 1498 times)

yeah i dont like invisible supports.

it depends, really.

since i'm p sure you're the kind of guy who likes to keep his builds authentic and as lego-like as possible, it's reasonable seeing that you don't unrender bricks.

however, i usually enjoy playing at a friend's private-ish mini empires server. unrendered bricks and zones are almost essential; nobody likes seeing fugly trans bricks under their spaceships. with the level of detail we have to suppress, not allowing for unrendered bricks is just not worth it.

both ways have their aesthetic reasons. i really don't care as long as it's efficient.

I used invisible bricks because I am lazy

I can't stand invisible bricks, I feel like they make a build feel less 'real'. I'd made a thread a while ago about this same thing. Invisible bricks do have their uses sometimes, but not often.

I only use it when doing the borders on maps

I don't aim to use them (unless it's supporting a floating build, like a floating island or aeroplane or helicopter), but if I have to use them because my construction doesn't leave room for actual supports, then I don't care if they're supported by a single invisible 1x2 plate in the corner of a room.

Makes no difference to me if it looks "structurally stable", because even if I did have it all touching without unrendered bricks, the chances are my building is going to look funny anyway.
Does it matter if it's got invisible bricks if I make something top-heavy, or similarly unusual? It wouldn't stand up without them if it was a real building/lego set.

Yeah floating islands is the only thing I'd ever use unrendered bricks for. Everything else I make sure everything is rendered.

Sometimes I like to have floating shelves. If I wanted to do that without using unrendered bricks I would have to make my walls crappy or use loads of extra bricks.

Is rather have a mod that lets you make floating bricks.
GROSS!!!

i've never really thought about it. sometimes i find it's required for something to look as intended though.

after i build something i turn off rendering on each and every brick

I use invisible bricks for support all the time.

I only build two types of things: architecture and vehicles.

I'll never use invisible support bricks for architecture.  Only exception is for switches, but even then, I've taken to using a different-colored 1x1 brick in place of a prop switch.  White for light switches, maybe a green/red with setColor for a machine.

With vehicles, I'm a little more flexible with props, but even there, I'm using more and of the Pole Adapters or Half Plates.  I'm trying to get it where the only thing I use invisible supports for is getting a space or air vehicle off the ground plane.
