i turn the cursor speed in Windows down because every game i play supports bypassing of Windows settings

Whatever you're comfortable with. I have a rather expensive mouse, but prefer 2000dpi. Honestly, people think they want a very high dpi while playing, but I find my aim better when I have a lower dpi.

DPI doesn't really matter as long as the mouse is sensitive enough to click any pixel if you needed to.
