everyone i know is like "omg get a mac dude no virus!!"

then i say "i have used PC my whole life and only got 1 virus cause i was like 5 and i was trying to download a fun racing game"

then they said "haha bull you've probably had about 10 viruses!"

and the truth is.. no only 1 virus lol.

any computer / operating system can get a virus, if someone can make something so that a computer cant get a virus, i can assure you that someone can reverse that. lol

better question: why does everyone think GNU/Linux distributions can't get viruses?

good answer: everything can get viruses, it just depends on how dumb the user is - generally only more technical computer users would use GNU/Linux distributions and as such there's going to be much, much less likelihood of one of the users getting a virus

also everyone doesn't seem to understand that the dumb skinny imacs and macbook pros are so skinny that you can drop them like once and they shatter. They are way too over priced. And since they think they're amazing, my family and friends say that if you buy a used one it's obviously completely broken lol.

They can get viruses, but rarely.
I've owned Macs all of my life (my parents mainly only trust Apple), and I have never gotten a virus since, and yes I do have virus protection (AVG). I've had a few PC's running Windows 7, or XP, and every year, I usually get 1-2 viruses. It sucks.

they're less likely to (even if it's just because there are less viruses for macs) but they're not like 100% safe

Currently I have zero virus protection other than Windows default security. I don't really need it anyway, I don't really torrent anything. If I download anything it's games I bought on steam.

I don't use Java. I Just visit basic trusted sites mostly. PayPal, eBay, Amazon, etc... Computer is a lot faster without it.

Anything and everything that connects via the internet can get a virus however certain operating systems are more likely to be infected such as windows>mac
