What are you talking about. Google fiber is an ISP, it offers gigabit internet. When you get gigabit you get a gigabit modem and router. How do you think the speed is shown like that. They do a test off of your connection. Also there are tons of routers that do 900mbps which is basically what you're actually getting. They're not that expensive either.

Oh I was thinking of fiber optic. Nvm.

I have gigabit wiring in my house. Although CAT5e isn't fully rated for 1000mbps like CAT6, CAT5e can still deliver that speed on my network. CAT6 has a significantly higher resistance to interference.

My setup has 1x30ft and 3x50ft wires, an $85 gigabit router with wireless N, and $25 switch (5 wired computers; 4 ports on router). That's only about $130 for new equipment. It's cheap.

Copper is pretty good for gigabit speeds even up to 10G with CAT6a.

Your ISP won't allowed such download speeds and unless you have a 1000mbs router you won't see a boost.

Google fiber is the ISP.

It's a shame the person who has that knows jack stuff about computers and most likely has no understanding what those numbers mean except that it means "Fast".

Guess how I know.
they took a photo of their monitor?

WOW, OKAY GOOGLE FIBER. You do Kansas City, and then you cut straight through Oklahoma to go to Austin.
Also, bump.

If only I lived in Austin.

I just had to get stuck in this town just miles from Austin :C

wait, unless i'm an idiot about ISP/whatever, don't you just have to be in an area near the city and it would still work? Or is it available only to those in that city?

The thing is: Google who is providing those speeds is your ISP in this case.

and unless you have a 1000mbs router you won't see a boost.

Google provides routers as well.

I have Time Warner

Why would someone need a internet speed this fast?

What if you have five people at your house where two people are streaming some 1080p video at 60 fps, while two other people are playing extremely fast-action games online all the while yet another person is downloading some huge file from his Google Drive? Have fun doing that with the average internet connection.

I'd get it because it's only $10 more than my current 30/5 from Comcast and Google would probably have much better customer service

How much is the construction fee if I live in germany?!
