for those who are too lazy

The one really annoying thing about that camera is that it's format is AVCHD and there aren't alot of editing programs that can handle it. Except for the really expensive or really crappy ones. But lucky I have what it takes.

why do companies give their cameras such ridiculous names such as cx290

letters: usually an abbreviation or something that "sounds cool" (according to focus groups)
numbers: kind of like a version number, the later the model the higher the number

Pretty good camera, I remember when I bought my first video camera, MiniDV, ahh those were the days with my old sony handycam, now I shoot with a Nikon D3200 and for work a Canon Vixia HV40.  For a first camera I am assuming for you, this is decent, AVCHD would have been a great choice, if you want good AVCHD quality you should have gone Canon as their CMOS censor's are much better quality than Sony's.  Not bad though, not bad.

You seem to know your stuff pretty well. Not my first, but probably the best quality so far.

My first camera was a Cisco Flip UltraHD.
