Highlight them using the magic wand or one of the highlighting shapes, than hit the DEL button on your keyboard.
Alternatively, you can use the eraser. You can tell if something is trans because it will have a checkered board sort of texture.
One last thing, be sure to save the image as a .png

yep and... you can have trans colors by pressing more in the colors window and selecting a color with some of it checkered
