Author Topic: Stereo Mix is gone  (Read 1223 times)

Okay, so I've been searching and searching for hours on how to enable Stereo Mix. Things I've done:

Installed latest drivers

Disabled and re-enabled "Show disabled Devices"

Disabled and re-enabled "Show disconnected Devices"

(I'm looking under the "Sound" window and the "Recording" tab.)

I should mention my OS. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad laptop, Soundmax Integrated HD Audio.

I'm slightly annoyed. Is there any other alternative? (No I will not hold a microphone near my speakers) I need others to be able to hear what I'm hearing via skype.

Did you have it before as a recording device? If so, you might want to try downgrading your drivers.

Nah, this is the first time I've checked for it on this laptop. So I don't know :/

Then chances are you can't enable it. Only certain sound controllers have Stereo Mix. One workaround is to get a headphone splitter and an auxiliary cable, and plug one end into the splitter, and the other into a headphone jack.

It is no longer called "Stereo Mix", it's now called "Rec. Playback" in Windows 7. Same thing, different name.
