You're wrong, he removed them because as updates came out, it became harder to develop the game.
Kompressor just said that maps looked bad in the shaders dev thread, not really why they got removed.

If you really want to play on maps, you could try digging up an old copy of Blockland and play some single-player.

they weren't removed just so we could have shaders. the reason this is thought is probably the unfortunate naming of the announcement topic

this is why it was removed

graphics can be improved so they don't look ugly and outdated. that was the whole point of the god-damn update. you can improve on things if they look ugly.

^some examples of graphics being IMPROVED and CHANGED without removing game features.
"they were ugly" isn't a reason to keep things out of the game. it's a reason to improve things and re-add them. never have I heard "lets remove it because it's ugly" anywhere except here. i've always seen "let's improve it because it's ugly".

He was deactivated because badspot did not like what he was doing.

nothing to do with static shapes, which he used to make the bedroom with
