Help Me With My Computer Problem

Heyo, this problem has been ongoing for my computer for quite a while now and only now have I decided to fix it. Whenever I run certain games like Bioshock Infinite, Rising Storm, Arma 3 Beta, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown my screen turns black and shuts off while my computer is still running. I realize this means that my graphics card is over heating and in order to not fry itself it has to turn off the source, but I was wondering if there was a way to fix it without using a lot of money. I have tried cleaning it and the power supply with the fans are working fine. All help is appreciated, thanks.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
CPU: AMD Phenom(tm) 9650 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
Memory: 6144MB RAM
GPU: Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT

Could possibly be a video card driver issue. Try reinstalling them maybe?

You could rig something up, take one of the fans that is inside of it and make it blow on the GPU.
Worked for me before, just make sure that the fan is raised up so air can get through it.

I think it is a cooling problem. Try rigging up that fan like Alyx Vance said.

If you rig it up heres what I did exactly: (implying your GPU is on the bottom with no cards under it)

1. Take a 12 pack coke box, cut the bottom inch off and have both sides open
2. Cut some holes in the cardboard to allow air in, refer to ascii model below
3. Put cardboard thing underneath the GPU and put the fan on the cardboard thing, make sure that the fan is pushing air at the GPU so it cools it down while pushing hot air out.

Edit: Dammit, the sides were suppose to be straight, apparently its spacing got messed up

If the model of your card is an open card, you can use heat sinks or a simple fan, also try moving your GPU to a further away PCI slot if you have an extra one.
