ONLY GOD FORGIVES
Only God Forgives is a new movie from director Nicolas Winding Refn, who directed movies such as Pusher, Bronson, Valhalla Rising, and the better known and more recent Drive. The movie itself is very graphic, dramatic, and some might say a little too art-housey. The film centers around a family in Bangkok who run a drug organization (Or have ties with one, it isn't exactly made clear in the movie) which is covered up by a boxing ring which Julian (Ryan Gosling) runs. Julian's brother, Billy (Tom Burke) is murdered after brutally raping and slaughtering a 14 year old prostitute, and so the mother of the family, Crystal (Kristin Scott Thomas) comes to Bangkok to see her son. She sends her younger son to avenge her elder son's death, but once Julian learns the circumstances of Billy's death, he spares the man who killed Billy. Crystal decides to take matters into her own hands and orders a group of men to kill the police officer, Cheng (Vithaya Pansringarm) who allowed the murder of Billy to occur. The plot thickens, and circumstances change as per usual. If you're intrigued by my unintelligible explanation of the movie's plot line then maybe you should give it a little peak or watch a trailer or better yet, watch the movie, which is available for 15 dollars on iTunes or in theaters for some other price.
If you've seen Drive, and liked it then this movie may be interesting. However if you don't like cryptic and artistic movies or didn't like Drive, you may not enjoy this movie.
I would suggest if you have a netflix account, checking out Drive before seeing Only God Forgives, to get a feel for if you actually enjoy Nicolas Winding Refn's work.
(please pardon my poor topic structure, I have no excuse for it.)
