I'm pretty sure the sword is not a cube. All I see is a cube a camera and a light. Am I doing it wrong?

You cannot open dts files in Blender. Go here for default models.

I'm trying to find the model to edit. If the dts file isn't the model then what is?

The .dts is the model, you just can't edit that specific file. You have to edit the .blend file, and export it as a .dts.
