How do I turn down the brightness on my Desktop Monitor?

I've already googled and searched for an answer but nothing works with my OS. I have Windows Vista, and an Acer monitor. Please help.

usually there's like a menu button on the monitor for monitor settings

I have an Acer monitor too, there are buttons to do this on the right/left sides of the monitor, or the buttons to configure the brightness are at the bottom of the monitor.
