Author Topic: Wireless headset for PS3  (Read 965 times)

Hey guys and gals.

I just started playing GTA Online recently. I would like to get a wireless headset for my PS3 to enhance my experience.

I want to keep it under or around $100. It doesn't need to be anything special- I just want it to work well.

Any suggestions? I suck at buying these types of things.

P.S.- if it works on PC and PS3 I would be totally happy.

I don't have a wireless headset for PS3 because I play Blockland.

You can use any common bluetooth headset for PS3s, which is nice. One thing I majorly recommend is don't go cheap (<$25) on your headset, you may hear others fine, but your headset can cause a lot of annoying noise. I bought a cheap little $20 headset(first mistake) from radioshack (second mistake) and it's absolutely awful. Be prepared to dish out around $40+ for a good quality one, it will be way worth it.

I would not recommend getting a turtle beach headset.  I could rant on and on about all the terrible design decisions that went into it but I think you get the idea.

The playstation pulse headsets are actually really nice and will support any device with either a usb or regular audio output, and will still work as an brown townog headset when the battery dies.  Unfortunately, if you get the elite model and have a somewhat bigger head like me, the piece of plastic connecting each headphone to the band around the head will wear out and crack after a while.  If this happens, it does qualify for a full refund if you get it from besy buy/sony.

Wait, what? I have a Turtle Beach for my PC and it works great. My only notable issue with it is that when there is no audio playing, there is a slight hiss in the background. I don't really care about it though but everyone has their peaves.

Some issues I have with the turtle beach px3 headset I currently have:
1. Requires both usb and brown townog output in order to worth with a ps3
2. Giant loving mess of cables
3. Will start beeping every ten seconds if no sound is played for more than a few minutes, even if it is plugged into power
4. Not compatible with ANY mobile devices as it only accepts wireless input through the giant supid box that comes with it, which only plugs into a usb.
5. Giant antennae of a microphone.
6. Power button amazingly requires a full 5 second hold to turn on or off
7. Has all sorts of hardware based switches and settings (switching between PC mode and ps3 mode) that I know for a fact are unnecessary and the result of stuff programming.

What kind did you get?

Px3

That's weird... I've had two cheaper ones that I've like never had problems with.

Thanks for helping guys.

I would like something that is "over the ear" and has decent quality sound and voice.

Also, does it matter much where I purchase it from?

You seem to be hating on a product for your personal problems, and hate of wires. I have had a wired PX22 headset since it came out, and I have never had to buy another headset since. Turtle Beach can be tricky at times, but most products are quality, and I would recommend it to anyone who asks about buying a PS3 headset. 2 years is more than I expected them to work, and they still work perfectly fine.
To answer the OP's question, Sony came out with a wireless Pulse headset that works alright, but it'll run you around $100. Most wireless headsets under the $100 range are usually not made with care and usually break within a matter of a few months. If you can bear to stand the wires of a wired headset, I honestly recommend the PX22 headset. It has multiple controls, such as bass, treble, and feedback volume. It also comes with a headphone jack to connect your music to from your inline amp. The inline amp is also not required to use the headset itself, as the headset has about a 6 foot long cable to the inline amp, which can be taken out and used with it's own 3.5mm headphone jack.
Hope this helps out, and in no way shape or form am I fanboying over Turtle Beach. I just believe that they make quality products for the price that they charge.

Well the px3 has quite a few ridiculous design flaws that are negatives whatever your opinion is, although the px22 looks like a major step up if it at least has regular audio input support, although I will bet you that the ps3 setup still requires more than just a USB port for no good reason.

Just got this a few days ago for about $30.

It seems to work pretty good. I can hear voices through the earpiece really well, my cousin tells me the sound is good - like I'm in the room with him. Though, it does need to be charged once and a while, but I don't mind.

I doubt it, but if you have a Bluetooth connection for your PC it will work.

I got it as a temporary mic until I can get a real headset since my old one is falling apart, but like you mentioned a lot are over $100. From reviews and like Nexus mentioned Turtle Beach can fall apart pretty easily. I've never been able to find a USB Headset for a good price and quality.

I agree with you that my PS3 setup uses RCA cables for audio with my Px22's, and is pretty difficult to be mobile with. But since I don't take my setup on the go it doesn't bother me. My PC is right below my PS3, and whenever I want to talk on TeamSpeak or Skype I just remove the USB from my PS3 to my PC and it's all set up
