Author Topic: Yay I'm Screwed- Car Repair  (Read 2425 times)

I wish it was manual. 2008 Ford Escape. An SUV which I've put hours of work into customizing.

Oh yeah, seen pictures.

By the way, what drivetrain does it have?  My dad wants me to get a front engine/rear drive car because the transmission would be easier to replace (even doing it at home).  He says front engine/front drive are a total pain and cost a lot of money.

2008 isn't that old of a model. Do you really tear the piss out of the thing while driving?
65,000 miles. I was also suprised.

According to the shop, they see various cars like mine coming in with this problem. According to them "Your car is an all around solid vehicle, but the transmission is the weak point."

They say I could have been the safest driver and baby the car all the time but it would still have failed. Thats the reason they want to completely upgrade it as well. So it will last longer then the stock trans that's in it.

AWD. Adding the the pain in the ass to replace transmission.

Hmm. Yeah, an automatic transmission isn't as easy to repair as a manual one, you are likely going to have to replace the whole thing. You could still call around and see if you can find a cheaper price, but frankly the part itself probably costs around $1,500 so that really sucks. I assume you don't have a powertrain warranty on it?

Can't those warranties go up to 100,000 miles, or is that just some even newer vehicles?

Nah that expired already awhile ago.

lol nvm

That sucks. If it were me, I'd just sell it and join the Z family :p

Nah, I understand that's not really an option for you. Life happens I guess, I'm sure there's dozens of things you'd rather spend 3 grand on than fixing a part in your truck that's been chugging along just fine this whole time, but at least now you can say you've got performance mods!

no it's just a ford :cookieMonster:

very few repairs are worth 2600 bucks.

are you still paying it off? like do you have warranties still. is the car in whole even worth 2600?
I would rather put 2600 down on a new financed one + use it as a trace in and hope they don't notice xd
even if they do notice ypu can still prob get some value from it - repairs

I thought about it. If it was some beat up 3,000 piece of junk I wouldnt even consider fixing it. However its valued at 10-12,000 so I have to think about it.

I bought my new Audi TT S in August and I've had to have the transmission repaired twice and had to get a new paddle shifter. Not fun.

How'd it break and what went wrong with it? Audi TTs have electronic transmissions. (I think)

Being paddle shifters it makes me think of shift-tronic.
