Author Topic: Problem with NVidia graphics card and Gigabyte motherboard  (Read 686 times)

So I kinda updated my PC. I bought 4 gigs of ram, 1tb drive, and a Nivida Geforce GT 610 graphics card. It ran two days. Today when I came from town I wanted to turn on my pc the display didn't turn on. I plugged the display into my laptop it worked, I plugged in my old graphics card it didn't work. I have a Gigabyte GA-G31MX-S2 motherboard and it has a VGA controller, I plugged my cable there and it worked on normal resolutions, but when I checked device manager it didn't find my graphics card, only a VGA controller.
Can somebody help me? Can the motherboard not see the PCI-E port?

Your motherboard might be faulty. I'd RMA it. You better hope the motherboard didn't fry the graphics card(s) as well though.(possible but unlikely)

I tested an old graphic card and it didn't work. I think it might've fried the PCI-E port because I unwantedly ran the pc through the whole night :C (It turned on itself)
Also, what's RMA ?

That won't work, the motherboard is like 6 y/o

Having your computer on all night will do nothing. I leave mine on like 99% of the time, nothing's happened because of it.

If there's no warranty than I suppose you should buy a new motherboard.

you can actually hurt your computer if you leave it on all night and have terrible cooling

on topic: who the forget upgrades their PC and keeps a 6 year old motherboard lol

Well if you have terrible cooling I don't think you want it on very long in general lol.

I was thinking the same with the motherboard though.

There's a computer repair spot just a couple hundred meters from my house. I think I'll go there in January cuz that's when I'll have some money.

Get an estimate first. There's no point in bringing it if the costs outweigh buying a new motherboard which it probably will.

I think I am going to be getting a new motherboard. I need it to be cheap as I only have like $30 :/ (Next month) I need it to support my Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 and a GT 610 and 2 ddr2 ram and SATA ports ;D

EDIT: My dad said later this day he's gonna help me disassembly my computer and he's gonna see if he can do something
