how do people quote posts that are too old to respond to

there was some box you could bring up at the bottom of the page, that allowed you to post without changing tabs

it should be at the bottom of the page when reading a topic, but it's possible to turn it off completely in the look and layout preferences, so if it isn't showing up you need to enable it
