Tripple Bogey Swings

I was playing a trivia game with my family and one of the questions came up asking how many swings would there be to get a triple bogey on a par 5 hole. My dad insists that it is 8, and that's what it appears to be based on what I've found on Wikipedia, but the game said it was 9. Any golfers out there that can explain?

If you swing 5, it's a par. A triple bogey is 3 swings over the par (which is 5) so it'd be 5+3=8.

It's 8, 5=par +3 over makes 8.
