that would imply that people are organized to such a point that they will actively gang up on people instead of simply all sharing the same opinion about the same faux pas
you approach this kind of situation by observing what everyone else is doing and accepting whatever social norms as being social norms instead of operating above them or deliberately subverting them because they're beneath you and you're somehow superior especially if you are new, because not only are you operating off of absolutely no base but you're actively under scrutiny because so many people go through this same song and dance where they have to show how much higher class they are right off the bat and run into this same brick wall of people not giving a damn
