Author Topic: popups on chrome and steam browser  (Read 486 times)

i've installed malwarebytes and ad-aware. Every time i click on steam browser (well, nearly every time) at least 5 popups come up. This only happens for the first few clicks on chrome, but with steam it's continuous. I was in a trade window and 12 different popups came up.

This really needs to stop. anyone got any ideas?

hmmm

check your extensions
usually that's the first place I check for stuff that annoys me

quickedit:
also, keep an eye out for
ilivid
visualbee
conduit
searchprotect

and a lot of other stuff

those will ADD pop ups like crazy
if it's stuck on "Installed by enterprise policy", go to extensions, then "developer mode", and find it's ID.
enter regedit, go to edit, then find next.
paste in the code (copied or just put it in manually), then click "Find Next..."
it should show you a key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome\ExtensionInstallForcelist
one of them should have the ID in the Data value
delete it and move on
next, enter chrome://policy
click on Show value... of the corresponding policy, and look for the folder,
ex: C:\ProgramData\lovingannoyingextension\
if show hidden files and folders are enabled, move on
if not, enable it
look for the folder, then delete it. it won't reinstall.
then, go to C:\Users\Your-Username (replace dis)\AppData\Local\GOOGLE\CHROME\USER DATA\DEFAULT\Extensions)

find the ID of the extension and DELETE IT

then, finally, go to C:\Windows\system32\GroupPolicy, and delete the Machine and User folders

no this won't help you with steam

go into safe mode with networking because you're gonna need it:
download rkill and run it at least once before running malwarebytes, then run MB
then, once that's done, grab adwcleaner and run it.
after that finishes, grab JRT and run it.
You should be pretty-much virus free after this, it's a basic 3 to 4-step wash I use for whenever people's computers at my school get infected with stuff and they come to me to fix it.
i should really start charging for that

Ran adwcleaner, it found conduit search and removed it. Thanks auto.
