Lol. Actually, I just remembered something. Static electricity has special properties, and can travel along/be contained within plastics. Derp derp.

I have an idea.
When you flip a mechanical light switch it creates a burst of electromagnetic radiation. Maybe your infrared controller/receiver picked up on one of the frequencies from the radiation.

In my old room my TV wouldn't work if I sat on my bed.
