Author Topic: Computer rapidly crashing  (Read 688 times)

So i've had this HP pavillion for 5 years, and its starting to crash rapidly, sometimes it lasts for a few hours then goes into rapid crashing.
When I start it up the fan rapidly starts whirring until i get onto the desktop, then it stops. It always crashes on steam, because im always on steam
I think the problem might be its just old and its having its last days. what do pls

The way you're describing it, it sounds like it's overheating.

Try cleaning out the heatsink/fans.

How do I do that? I don't wanna tear apart the computer because my dad will flip the forget out.

Ask your dad for permission/to help you if you're unsure. I don't know how it'll work with your particular model, but there should just be a single cover on the bottom that can be taken off with a few screws, giving you access to the fan. Then you can just blow all the dust out with compressed air.

it might also be a sign from the internet gods for you to stop posting.

To add to dkamm65, you should use compressed air. Do not use any vacuum cleaner (dirt devil, etc) because the static can damage the computer.

The biggest area to be concerned about would be your heat sink. It is the most crucial part and can also collect the most dust.

Also, if anyone in your house smokes, the computer fans will suck that in too and everything will have a nice layer of tar on it, which is just an added layer of disgusting fun when you clean.
