Why does the sun always have to be at the same trajectory?

It's quite annoying how the sun is always shining at the same trajectory, giving off the same angle of shadow no matter what sky you do.
Is there any way you can move the sun on a Y axis instead of the standard X axis?
If you do not understand what I am talking about then its probably down to me not explaining it correctly.

You can change the suns azimuth and elevation. I do not see what your problem is.
