Internet is tanking; what do

My internet started getting really slow last night. I unplugged the router and went to bed. Upon plugging it back in, it's still slow as molasses. It's never done this before, so a call to Comcast could help.

Don't know much about how ISPs and internet connections work, so all I can say is that my ISP is Comcast. My dad has been considering dropping them and switching to Sprint for a while now.
EDIT: Found an alternative connection until the problem is fixed. Wonderful.

My Internet is horrible and the ISP (Verizon) won't help us.  My WiFi hotspot permanently broke thanks to my dad getting the brilliant idea of "restarting" the device when it has been locking down every single time for the past several months.

After about two weeks of it being down, my dad finally decided to call Verizon.  They won't replace the router so now we're screwed out of Internet unless we use my parents mobile hotspots on their phones.  Then to make matters worse, my dad cut the data allowance from 20GB to 6GB and banned me from playing Blockland or any other games online.  Now I won't be around until I either get a job or move to another house.

My dad is wanting to get T-Mobile now, but that doesn't reach where I live.  My dad accidentally drove a fencepost through the dial-up cable a couple years back so that won't work either.  Verizon is the only Internet service that will reach far enough.

OT: This happened to me as well. I just dealt with it because no one else in the house uses the internet a lot other than me. Everyone else in my family has this thing called "unlimited data" or some stuff. Plebs.

BTW: I have Verizon FiOS if that means anything.

I have just as many complaints about Verizon as the rest of you. I use a business connection for my hosting service, and here is the uptime log:

Of course some of that is my fault, but the ISP probably didn't even manage to provide 85% uptime over the past week. And this is on a business-grade FiOS plan (50 / 25).
