Author Topic: [RANT] Internet ad shorteners  (Read 375 times)

my first rant is probably going to go bad but here we go.

Ad shorteners. You see them all the time for Minecraft mods, downloads to stuff, all that stuff. It's just one thing: the people who use those links get paid, while you're stuck on a loving advertisement page waiting 7 seconds, while some stuffty media player downloads to your system. These infuriate me, and I know people will say "WHY DON'T YOU USE ADBLOCK THEN loving NERD", but here's the thing: What if you want to support places like your favorite websites? Yes, I know there are whitelists. But those can be mildly confusing to some people.

These things, shortest, adfly, all that other crap, make me just want to punch the creator's faces to the monitor.

Here's a few things about ad referral links.

1. If nobody clicks on it, you're not getting paid for stuff. So if it never gets popular, or no one wants it, you're not getting jack stuff.

2. The payments are seriously low for each click. It'll take a couple hundred, maybe even THOUSANDS just to get a single profit.

3. JUST ASK FOR DONATIONS. Seriously, if it's good enough, people will donate to you. No need for someone to waste 7 seconds of their time on a loving timed page to skip an ad.

Look, really. Just use bit.ly, tinyurl, ANY of the free ones will work. Just please, don't use ad shorteners for forget's sake. Most of everyone hates them.

i'm probably going to get a lot of debate, hate, or agreement, but I honestly don't care. I just had to get this off my chest.

Its not hard to turn off adblock for one site. Literally all you have to do is check "Disable Adblock for this page" and you're done

like I said, i know this is possible

Yeah and all you said against it is that its confusing, which its not

isn't it 50,000 clicks for 5$ or something like that

The good news is that most of the good mods don't use shortners or you can find ways to bypass.

Wasn't there some massive drama over a Minecraft modder who used ad shortners and then got in trouble with Mojang? I definitely remember one massive Steam trading group collapsing when it turned out the admin was editing everybody's posts to change the URLs to his own shortners so he could make money. The admin was getting cash in the hundreds or something and not a single mod or charity saw that money.

adfly says this:

"You are required to earn only $5 before you will be paid. We can pay all users via their PayPal or Payoneer."

i don't even know what the forget payoneer is
