Since when were you forcibly integrated into Google? You can install apps directly without Google Play, although there's no reason to. You can also use Windows Media Player or just a file explorer to put music on. Granted, many Androids come with Google apps, but you don't really have to use them.
Apple and iTunes is a different story.
