Author Topic: Quite a way to start off my second year of Computer Technology  (Read 781 times)

So this year I started network technology through a local CTE program with the Board of Cooperational Education Services (BOCES). So everything started off pretty normal, except for one thing. We had no towers on our classroom tables. We found out that our teacher tested two and found out they wouldn't turn on. There were also other towers stashed underneath a table. So we got the two to work, we then found out they were passworded with a password our teacher never knew about. So we decided to work on the computer lab that we worked in last year. To our suprise, we couldn't connect to the internet with some of them. Our teacher got fed up with everything and decided to tear everything apart and start fresh. So after some days of dismantling we've gotten to the bare bones of the place. We also found out some computers cannot connect to the local DNS, so students can't use domain names to connect to websites. Overall, this experience has been quite frustrating and we believe it was set up by the previous teacher that original taught us last year to test the seniors.

So this year should be fun...

What an awful start, but also an exceptional learning opportunity. Work in, at least IT customer service, but also tech in general, is all about getting at the root of often hilariously simple mistakes on the part of others. It's not good that so many problems are occurring in this place where you're supposed to be learning tech, but like...you ARE learning tech, so try to make the most of it.

i kinda thought it would go in the direction where the class had to build their towers for the year. Now THAT would be one hell of a start, walking into a computer class with no computers, just parts.

That would be loving amazing.

It's like that at the moment. I forgot to the mention that the towers had absolutely no components except for the stuff included in the towers.

they need to do this in every school

That's brilliant.

Update, our teacher found a router. Woohoo, we found out that it was a problem with DHCP not being able to provide proper ip addresses.

That totally seems like its what is happening here.
