Invisible walls, it's like the best.

make it all slope upwards around very steep like so its impossible to climb


create flat tree shapes and repeat around map

Make zones around it, and make a Renderman add-on. So when people try to leave he appears in front of them and brutally murders them.

Make the ramps flatten out, and continue it out into a large plain surface and at the end of the plains put fog.

get that one addon that doesn't let players leave the area or go too far
like battlefield or battlefront

You can always go with the Bluzone approach, where everything is "lower" than the outside terrain.

Put lava textured as water around it and make it an island thing.

Best way to end terrain is to either block areas with thick foliage/trees, to create deep gorges, or to build mountains in the way. Basically anything that will stop a player from passing it. Always a good idea to proof your boundaries with invisable walls just incase players find ways to bypass them.

Never use visible or invisable basecube walls as boundaries alone.
Always try to atleast have a visible reason why the terrain ends.
