Can't figure out how to use a gamemode in custom

I know how to select it, just activate ingame with custom. Also, I can't find it on the main screen where you choose gamemode.

that is not how you change a gamemode, you need to select a compatible gamemode through the gamemode selection menu before you start a server, if that menu doesn't appear (i don't know why it wouldn't) then use the admin menu to change gamemodes.
