I wasn't diagnosed with Aspergers when I was a young child because of how things were back then. I went to the relevant hospital to be tested for it when I was 6 or 7 years old and all the Doctor did was take a blood sample, send us home and tell us a week or so later that the blood brown townysis had shown that I didn't have anything wrong with me. Thanks to that it wasn't until I was 14 years old that I actually found out that I was something besides a socially awkward kid who couldn't make friends and wasn't very likeable with no hope of changing.
It doesn't matter now since I've long since gotten past the problems which come with having Aspergers but I still wish I had gotten the help and support I needed from a younger age rather than when it was too late for it to be of any use. Maybe I wouldn't have dropped out of school at the age of 12; maybe I wouldn't currently be in college trying to get the level of qualifications I should have had 4 years ago but hey, who knows?
