My sister nearly died 2 days after her birth. actually she was legally dead for about 6 minutes. And it's the hospitals fault.
When my sister was born she had a low blood sugar, which the doctors would have caught if they were following protocol. Then 2 days later when my mom noticed a serious drop in temperature, and took her to the nursery and informed the nurses, their solution was to simply put her under a heat lamp. When my dad came in to check on her, she was black and blue and wasn't breathing. She crashed, and the doctors were barely able to revive her.
At the time, she had a pancreatic infection, and when the doctors tried to fix that, they started pumping drugs INTO THE WRONG ORGAN. They accidentally started pumping drugs into her liver, thus giving her liver problems. Eventually a nurse told my mom that if we keep my sister at that hospital, she would die. So she flew to pensilvania to go through surgery that resulted in her losing 90% of her pancreas.
she survived, and finally came home for the first time 2 months after her birth. It cost around 1 million dollars for her to live.
but the story doesn't end there
5 years later, she has a major seizure out of nowhere. Turns out, one of the results of her crashing was that it left a scar in her brain that causes seizures. She's had them numerous times since then, and the medicine they gave us was 600 dollars a month and had sever possible side effects.
she's now 12, and has been seizure free for around 7 months. We're on a different medicine and only pay 10 dollars each time we pick it up.
this is a sob story with a so far happy ending
