It's stupid but at the same time clever as forget. It really shows how aggressive police officers get when they think a crime may be being committed even when it's non-violent. The fact of the matter is, a prank like this simply wouldn't be funny if the cops came up passively and asked what they had, explained to them that they are under investigation for a potential crime and that they are legally obligated to hand over the item in question, investigated it, and handed it back.

Yeah but when the "offender" isn't being very compliant like they are, of course the officers are going to be standoffish.
