I never really liked MM.
Too long of rounds and too complicated for many people (including myself) to get it right.

Was Mafia Madness that weird murder mystery spin off that had 500 pages of rules and guidelines?

ya

that was one of the main problems with it and it's what makes it kinda difficult to host
but the complexity lends to the gameplay more than any murder mystery-type gamemode ever could if you get a group of people that understand the game well. i've never played any other similar game that was as engaging and interesting as MM because they've always been so depthless and simple. it comes down to preference, of course, but i much prefer MM's breed of complexity to the 'traditional' "bad people good people whodunnit" model. it's not something you can just throw yourself into and play, which is really goofy for the environment, but taking the time to learn the ins and outs is really great. i guess the vets have an advantage in this sense because they didn't have to learn it all at once; development was always active while brackets was hosting.
