Author Topic: VR is here.  (Read 2086 times)

This post is a little long, but explains my experiences and opinions with VR.

Virtual Reality is pretty cool... for a weekend. I've spent around $600 on Oculus Rift stuff and Razor Hydras. Playing games with the right equipment is really fun for a moment, but the problem is that there aren't any real games for it. Nothing for the Oculus Rift is fun to play. The "experiences" are only neat for a couple minutes.

An addictive Oculus game is nearly impossible to find. The fun games that are converted to the Oculus are rarely done so well. Half Life 2 is not fun to play because the UI is glued to your eyeballs. MinecRift is the only exception, it is the best port I've ever seen. I've played it for hours and it is loads of fun. The reason is because the UI is designed for the rift. It floats in front of your character, a real in-game model. This makes it a lot easier to use then peering at the corner of your vision.

tl;dr: The Oculus Rift and accessories are incredible, but there are no fun games for them. If every port was as good as MinecRift I would never go back to a mouse and keyboard.

PRESENTING:

Wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo brought the Virtual Boy back from the dead in one of these years.

I would definitely buy a VR Headset from Nintendo if they Brought it back.

if blockbuster games plus accesories were designed for vr i believe it would be a success.

...3DS
That was the revival.

terrible for shooters.

the wiis showed us why a competitive fps is loving gay with a physical toy gun.

games improve by looking and sounding more realistic. but that is all effect. once you start making them more true to life by getting physically involved, you ruin video gaming.

ohh man i would love to paly mirrors edge with this

WHY DIDNT THEY SHOWCASE MIRRORS EDGE WITH THIS??

Imo VR isn't really good for shooters. Yet. Not until we have actual shooters built around VR with a controller that goes with it. Right now, however, it's AMAZING with racing games, flying games and certain exploration games. That's where it really shines. War Thunder, Project Cars, and Assetto Corsa are great examples. Check em out.

Wait, this means I'll have to move my legs now.

NOOO! No exercise plz.. God no!

I don't want to exercise and play video games though.

Virtual Reality gaming is neat, but it's really nothing more than a gimmick. I am pretty sure everyone would rather sit down in a comfy office chair and use a keyboard and mouse.

fixed that 4 u.
