fraps has major lag spikes when i record, looking for an alternative

fraps is constantly causing fps issues in games i try recording, which gets annoying and makes it literally un-usable

if anyone can come up with an alternative or a solution that would be great

but I don't know much about screen recorders

I like Open Broadcaster Software, but if you have a recent enough Nvidia graphics card, you should definitely use Shadowplay
OBS is free and open-source, and if you do have an appropriate graphics card, Shadowplay is also free, but it doesn't work with any other cards

just install "the geforce experience"
when you run it there will be a little button in the top right corner

Also with shadowplay installed all you have to do is press the hotkey you have set for it, you don't even have to have it open to work.
As long as Geforce experience is running it works.
