Author Topic: Why does everyone hate popular youtubers nowadays?  (Read 733 times)

Everywhere I go I see people ranting on popular youtubers for the worst reasons on earth. Here are some example arguements that people make

1. THEY ARE GAY!!!!

for some reason people just insult them out of the blue ok
2. THEY HAVE ADS ENABLED SO THEY ARE INSTANTLY MONEYHUNGRY

Everybody wants money. Having an opportunity to make money off of what they love is a dream, so of course they will do it.
3.THEY AREN'T FUNNY

Believe it or not stuffface, some people actually think they are funny. Thats your opinion, and you dont need to trash on them just because YOU dont like it.

/discuss???

cus we're not the target demographic

/thread

unfunny garbage that handicaps blow out of loving proportion, loss of quality and they promote the worst games

Same jokes each time, not really funny nor creative.

pewdiepie is jus a hueg cigarettet, am i rite??

No, they actually do act in such a manner that it drives them to being unfunny.
Screaming in the cam every five seconds, horrible acting, and barely even knowing how to play a game is pretty annoying. This is just baseless hate towards someone whose popular. If less popular users acted the same way and eventually came to the "surface" to be seen a lot more often; negative comments and opinions are sure to rise. Is it just fate or is there actually some good reason for it?

^These here aren't %100 percent accurate on the actual opinions of most people who think negatively of popular people. These opinions. are just a result of some kid seeing one logical comment towards the user, then eventually spreading like cancer.

Not to mention Pewdiepie is said to be the one who created the stuffty and unfunny doge meme that predictably became a massive cancer. (He mentioned it in one of his videos. Forget which one) Sure there are times where they can be actually humorous, but most of the time it's pretty bland. Plus, not "everyone" hates people because they're popular DURRR. It's usually a low percentage that actually hates the said user, but somehow they show up first on everything and are immediately taken as "oh no why does everyone hate [insertnamehere] :(((".

i dunno, probably because people are jealous that they/their favorite youtubers aren't more famous

I find that with most people that become large, they try to broaden their demographic by slowly changing their reactions with games and modifying their on camera personality.

While not necessarily a bad thing, as it widens the range at which people will enjoy watching their videos, it can alienate a lot of older viewers as well as they notice a drop in "quality" or performance.

Take in example Markiplier or Game Grumps. I used to an active subscriber to both of them watching almost next to everything they would upload, but as time went on, either them changing their on screen personalities or me just changing my tastes caused me to distance myself from them.
Any content I watch from them is now very specific stuff. I really enjoy the Sierra games the grumps pick up every now and then, and a lot of old classic games. And while I may not find the yelling and screaming all that entertaining, Markiplier does do nice videos right off the bat for some scary games which I find entertaining, and can talk about them intellectually for a fair amount of time for me to get a fair assessment.

I don't really hate the youtubers by the sort. I'm sure they're all great people, and would be fun to hang out with for a day, I'm just not a huge fan of their content, thus:

I don't watch it.

Sorry I don't find loud obnoxious noises from a dude with a swedish accent funny
I'll try to be more handicapped next time

because its cool now. duh

a lot of them are overrated and has a bad fanbase so people tend to notice these things first. just as... uh... minecraft, for example. its a pretty good game but (most) tend to hate it because of that.

just like, say someone hates something because they hate the fanbase and they think its way overrated. their mind instead will try to seek out all the bad things of the game to challenge the people who like it so much with opposing beliefs.

Some of it has to do with the fact that we aren't the target demographic for their content. They're appealing to the lowest common denominator that is now flocking to youtube searching for over-saturation of crude, absurdist, short-form humor. This is my obviously biased perception of the content.

Another piece of it lies on the content creator's level. The market of "popular youtubing" is saturated with a comedy style that does little the stretch beyond the tried and true entertainment model laid out by the last few years of growth on Youtube. This happens with most new avenues of entertainment—the proven successful model is milked for all its worth, and we end up with numerous channels offering largely similar content of similar quality, all garnering millions of views and being highlighted for their minor differences.

The perfect example is RayWilliamJohnson. Make countless quick-cut videos showcasing an aggregate of popular videos, lay down some witty commentary, and move from topic to topic as fast as you can. The majority audience knows what RWJ is, and has to offer, but stick a different face in front of the camera and call it something else—maybe make the channel center around a different topic. Maybe it's not viral videos, but the model of deliver entertainment is the same. And the masses gobble it up.

Just give it time, entertainment in new media is evolving faster than ever before.

I could relate this to a particular show but I don't want to derail. Besides you all know what I'm thinking.
