I hope I'm not alone here in thinking that you can be an obnoxious person just because you're obnoxious, and that's completely independent of what you do and don't like.

Let me illustrate this point:
"I can't believe you would like eating mice. That's horrible, you're a horrible person, I hate you, and I hope you die."
"I can't believe you won't try eating mice. That's so ignorant, you're a horrible person, I hate you, and I hope you die."

"I can't believe you like that game. You must be some kind of extremist lunatic; that barely qualifies as a game at all. I have no reason to respect your opinion because you've destroyed any credibility because of your enormous bias."
"What's wrong with the game? I bet you just don't like it because you're afraid of the content. That's so stupid. I bet you like that game, don't you? What a hypocrite."

"Can you please stop talking about toast? God, I'm sick of hearing everyone talk about toast all the time. All you toast-lovers should just go die."
"TOAST IS THE MOST AMAZING THING IN THE WORLD!!!! PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT OUR AMAZING TOAST OVERLORDS XD!!!"

One of the most poisonous practises here is the process of subjective preference->relation to unpleasantness->assumption that, because the unpleasantness can be connected to the preference by an individual occurrence, the subject is also directly relate-able to that unpleasantness. Or some other similar psychological process which ultimately leads to the pre-emptive assumption of character based on an article of personal preference.

Did you mean to say can or can't? Because saying 'can' kinda throws it off a bit.

"Can" was correct. I'll add the appropriate comma before the "and" to make the point clearer.

Ah, okay.

because someone is connected to the things i don't like, they must be bad?

Final Solution to the Brony Question:
1. Harass them constantly (Kristallnacht)
2. Make a Brony Megathread to isolate them (Ghetto/Concentration Camp)
3. IP Ban anyone who posts in the thread!!!! (Gas them!)

because someone is connected to the things i don't like, they must be bad?
Yes, that's exactly the psychological phenomenon I'm describing.
