Author Topic: OBS recording stuttering when game was running just fine  (Read 16221 times)

I recorded about half an hour in Medal of Honor and it was fine while I was playing it, the game stayed at 60 FPS. But when I look back at the recording it's horrible, the game is running at 60 in the recording but every 3 seconds or so it will freeze on a single frame for about a second, the audio plays fine throughout. I want to know if I could fix this issue and if I could hopefully fix the gameplay I recorded because the commentary I got out of it was really good.

Here is the log (I don't know if this is the right one, since this is the longest amount I have recorded I just used the largest log file). http://pastebin.com/Hsz0EwWG

Couple things. First, you can turn down the audio bitrate to 256kb/s. Second, you can turn down the video bitrate to 16000kb/s. It's very possibly your harddrive not being able to write fast enough because of the huge bitrate, so doing those two things might stop that from happening.

Thanks. i know this is a long shot but is there a way to fix the current recording that I took?

Another possible cause of the stuttering is that your harddrive cannot read fast enough to properly play back the file. Try using a program like Handbrake to encode the video to a lower bitrate, like 10-12,000kb/s on a medium speed preset, and the audio to 256kb/s. If you play back the file and it's still stuttering, then the problem probably can't be fixed.

Okay I have no clue how to use handbrake. Could you post a pic of what I'm suppose to do?

Omg, please learn how to find a good bitrate. 30MB/s is waaay too much.
This seems to be a good formula for find an approximate bitrate:

I've recorded 60fps with a bitrate of about 15MB/s and it's fine.
Play around with the bitrate and keep lowering it until you can start to see bad artifacts in the recording.
