Author Topic: 1% equals 1/93 True or False?  (Read 3301 times)

.99999999... repeating DOES NOT equal 1. 1/3 DOES equal .333..., but that goes on forever. So simply adding 3 1/3s does indeed make a 1, but multiplying .333... by 3 and saying that it equals .99... is simply ludicrous.

Sure, if it was .33 * 3 it would be .99, but we are dealing with infinite, non-terminating fractions and if you infer otherwise you break the simple laws of mathematics.

It doesn't matter that it's repeating. The math still works.

.33 repeating * 2 = .66 repeating. The same as 1/3 * 2 or 2/3. .33 * 4 = 1.32 but when it's infinite there will always be another 3 there that will be multiplied by 4 making 12, increasing the previous column to three. .33 repeating * 3 does equal .99 repeating infinitely, which infinitely approaches 1. According to literally basic calculus, .99 repeating equals one because the limit of .33 repeating * 3 is 1.
