Author Topic: Ran into this lovely fellow on Steam. Nice try at phishing.  (Read 2087 times)

These threads are just going to keep coming because practically everyone on steam will get messaged by hackers every few days. The way that these phishers do it is by making new accounts and using a bot to automatically find people who are online with items and add them as friends. Their scam is only really meant to work on extremely stupid users, so they have to add as many people as possible to maximize their chances of finding an unlucky sucker. There is really no bragging rights to be had for avoiding their scam, since 99% of other users are just as sensible as you are and know that they're getting phished.

Clicking the link will automatically download a .scr disguised as a .jpg or .png, if I remember correctly. Opening the scr will result in it hijacking your account and emptying your items. I get phishing bots like these around 2-3 times a week. Who could possibly fall for this? stuffty grammar, suspicious steam level 0 guy, profile is private, trying to send you a link to a suspicious website.....
this happens to me like 10-17 times a week, its forgetin annoying

if a website has the extension .ru then you probably shouldn't be there
