Author Topic: Debate: It should be illegal to advertise via email  (Read 568 times)

Really, it should. In every country.
There's no reason for you to advertise via email. Email is created for purposes of communication, account verification, and other things. It, however, is not, and was never made, for advertising.
I don't care about your "weight loss" or "snake enlargement" stuff. None of them have ever enticed me, and just use up space. Even worse is when they intentionally get through the spam filters, by typing.stuf.lik3.th!s. That should be even more illegal.
You can advertise in many, many various ways. Billboards, television, radio, internet (the non-email part), and much more. If you can't afford to buy a simple advertisement to the point where it's necessary for you to flood someone's inbox with stuff emails, you shouldn't be in business.
So, do I have a point? Or am I wrong?

They shouldn't be able to spam you without consent.

It should also be a little concerning for email providers because spam takes up space in the cloud/servers as well.

You're doing something wrong if you're getting advertising e-mails.

There's a spam inbox for a reason
It's fine if they actually think they get business that way
It's dumb as hell but it shouldn't be illegal

But it's quick cash. You collect e-mails and you sell the list to these advertcigarettes.

If you were advertising products, I'm 99% sure you would do it

nah m8, send it to your spam box

It is illegal to send automated emails without a unsubscribe button in the United States.

most of the emails talked about in OP come from russia and aren't really that easy to just track them down and end everything
I get them too, but they're really rare so it doesn't bother me

they also do stuff like "Mail Delivery System" which acts like you sent an email (which is usually makes it look like you sent a trap link to your friend) but it failed to send, making you think someone hacked your email trying to send something

Well the spam normally would just end up in the spam box normally and get deleted after a month automatically.

The same stuff comes through my actual letterbox.
It's not really any more annoying or offensive that it comes from my digital letterbox.

it just fills up my inbox and i unsubscribe.

and if i sign up for something i make sure to untick the newsletter.
