Dawnscape
3 rd Edition
A Medieval Fantasy World &
A Roleplay / Story telling Server

About:

Background:
Dawnscape was a project I started in 2013, with the help of another Blocklander named Mo. It's been 2 years now and I'm still coming up with things to add, but I have largely kept the majority of the content basic. The whole time I never advertised any of my work with Mo, and after those 2 years the project has been put on hold and brought back a few times. To keep things not-so-personal, I'll just summarize the project as "Ambitious," but we keep trying at it. However, I'm posting this now to get this project started again. The main idea of Dawnscape is to provide a fun game to anyone who just wants to play an RPG, but to also provide a cool story with a lot of thought and time put into it. Those who only like to fight monsters, make tools, and get loot can do all that, but if the player wants to be a part of a story, they can do that too. A large aspect to the game will incorporate the basics of Blockland too. In the end, parts of the map will be available for player use. With the way our community is, suggestions are open within reason, and we more easily react to your ideas and input. Keep in mind though that we can't always do everything people want us to, and some of what I say I can include in the code turns out to be impossible or not logically implementable.

It's A WIP:
There's a lot of work being done on the project currently, and there's a lot of room to fill if Mo and I want to get a playable game out. I do all the coding for the game myself, and at the start I was completely self taught and I sucked pretty bad. With two years of unyielding attempts, I'd say I'm not half bad anymore, but I'm still one guy and there's a lot of stuff that goes into making an RPG system. People told me that I should just use some code that's already been written, and I have incorporated a lot of various Add-Ons to the game, but in the end I want to have a fairly original code for Dawnscape. Basically the point is that it takes a long time for two people to make a nearly complete game.

What to Expect:
  • Within the next week I'll update this discussion with the lore of the Dawnscape universe.  ✔
  • A few days after that Mo and I aim to have an open server with the map at least slightly explorable.
  • Also within that time frame, I'll most likely have recycled enough of the old code to have a mild RPG experience.
  • I'll update this discussion on a weekly basis, as long as new stuff is going on.

We both go to school; don't expect us to always do what we say we think we can.

Lost to the ever lasting trials of time...
2013: We were really just testing the waters. The majority of the story behind it and all the lore was composed at this time. The code behind it was written twice, and it sucked both times. The learning experience.2014: New map, new cleaner code (it still sucked), and extended storyline was developed, but in the end it got old and we slowly declined to a complete stop of production.2015: After some attempts at making a game in Python, I decided that starting a game from scratch is just too hard. I talked to Mo and eventually we decided to go back to Dawnscape, and now we're pretty serious again. The ideas are pretty laid out, and the changes aren't quite drastic, but the code is being largely edited again. As of the last edit, the path is very large and hardly tread.

Using the quest system built into my TotalRPG Events would probably make quests and storyline a lot less painful to do.

Interesting add-on, it made me realize some changes I can make to my code. Thanks for this, I'll probably wind up using a very similar saving system to this, my old one sucks. I'll also probably use a modified version of this so that I'm not the only one who can make quests and things.

Will there be Skills for players to level up and gain new abilities? A Skilling System similar to Destiny's RPG would be amazing.

totally not related to runescape whatsoever

Why do most of the patron sigils look like possible carrots or something cheaply made out of ms paint.
