Author Topic: Playing on different computers.  (Read 1214 times)

I looked at the FAQs (of the Blockland site, not forums) and found out that you'll get an "Authentication Failed" error if you are accessing your key from a different IP address.

But if I play on a different computer in the same network, does that mean I'm using the same IP address and nothing else will change?

yes

Only the private ip will be different

The game only cares about your public ip

Also I find this to be odd because I play at my grandma's house occasionally and do not have this error

Yes.
As long as you have the same IP address(same network = same IP address), you can play without an auth. failure

Ok, I understand.
But if I want to play the game at a different location than my usual network, will the game give me the error, even though it's me who is using a different IP?

I'm pretty sure it will, since you're going to be using a different IP address.

Why don't I get it at my grandma's house?

Why don't I get it at my grandma's house?
idk
last time i checked (about a month ago) it still would give errors if i went to a different ip

ninjaedit: Don't you need the portable version of Blockland for it to not give you an error?

Why don't I get it at my grandma's house?
It only happens if the same key is being used by different IP's at the same time.

I think I'll be installing Blockland Portable the next time I ever install it.
I'm just hoping this theory works for me if it works for you.

you should be fine to use the normal copy of blockland, the portable version is just so you can put it on a flash drive - hence portable

authentication errors will only occur if your key is online from multiple IPs at once
if you close out of blockland once you're done using it, you should be fine if you travel
if you leave BL open and go somewhere, you'll get an authentication error if you open BL at the 2nd location

You can play anywhere at any time on any IP address

if you want to play with another person, they must be on the same IP

if someone is playing on your account under a different IP and you are playing too, either one of you will get an authentication failure.

authentication failure doesnt necessarily mean it revokes your key, it just kicks someone off the account

Ok, so if I open up the game at Point A, one IP address, and leave it there, then go to Point B, a different IP address, open up the game there, get the error, close the game, and return to Point A, what will happen then?

point A gets kicked, but you can relaunch the game and play

To my knowledge, if you insert your key in house A, close the client, insert the key in house B, no problem. If you have your key inserted in both houses, play in house A, FORGET to close the client in house A and open it in house B, house A will NOT get an auth error and you'll need to re-enter your key in house B. IF you re-enter your key in house B, house A WILL get an auth error and be kicked. You will be asked to re-enter your key in house A.

I'm pretty sure it will, since you're going to be using a different IP address.
no it will only give you an error if there are two different ips on at the same time
