I recommend Firefox. I don't see what all the hype with Chrome is, Chrome has been terrible for me, it ran ( and still does ) slower than IE8 when I still used that. Plus, Google's tracking.

I heard Chromium is a good alternative for Chrome, as it's open-source, and supposedly doesn't have any of Google's bullstuff tracking. I never personally used it, though.

By default they will send the URL of every website you visit and every file you download to Google's servers in order to provide "protection against malicious websites" (generally a warning message). This may be cached locally in some cases or disabled for some installations but is usually not the case.
