Author Topic: Figured out why my profile picture won't work.  (Read 628 times)

Turns out its the picture itself. It is either the format or the size. I know the format is correct so that leaves number two. The only thing I don't know is:
What is the max size for a profile picture?

Maximum image size is 75x75. I'd assume the maximum file size is the same as the maximum attachment size, or 512kb.

The error likes to show up even when it's perfectly fine. You can blame the SMF devs.

I'd assume the maximum file size is the same as the maximum attachment size, or 512kb.
probably not

and even if the image's dimensions are over 75x75 the forum will automatically resize it

????
Never seen this happen, you're thinking of something else probably

Okay I resized the image so it should work now.

I think I broke my profile

I've not changed avatars in a while, nor changed to one over 75x75, but I'm pretty sure it has always been the case that images will resize.
That certainly happened with my earliest avatars. And if it's a .gif and it's resized it will only display the first frame of the .gif resized.

Okay I resized the image so it should work now.
Can confirm.

It used to, but doesn't seem to anymore. I just tried it and it rejected the avatar without any error.

Ever since I joined this forum, this has never happened for me.

yeah it actually does resize your avatar if it's too large

my first avatar was (predictably) a very large picture of candy corn, which was resized automatically
although it looked pixelated as a result

but then again that was over two years ago so who knows

If you're exporting the image with Adobe Photoshop, thats the reason why it won't work.

it definitely did. maybe it's changed by now, I don't really know, I haven't tried to upload an avatar bigger than 75x75 in years. but it definitely did do that before
