it's like if a plane gets severely damaged, you try to land the plane in a relatively okay place that is less likely to kill everyone in, as opposed to just crashing period.
isn't that what you want to do if you have a damaged plane so you don't kill everyone on board

It's trying to control the amount of damage dealt in a situation against the person who's getting damaged. Speaks for itself really.

but again, as opposed to just doing nothing and letting the plane crash all on it's own
