this looks pretty awesome. do you guys think this is gonna be the new skype, teamspeak, and mumble combined?

i don't feel like a lot of this stuff is necessary
like when i raid in wow, i open vent and connect to our server and hop a channel and all i have to do is press a button to talk
and the quality is only bad if someone's mic is bad, and we don't really NEED another app for chat, we have raid chat and ingame and plus we're already using voice comms to start with
little skeptical... but it could be interesting
and i'm not saying it won't be good, i'm only saying that i'm not sure if a lot of the stuff they're offering is necessary to a person like me and anyone else who uses half of the services they're looking to replace/outperform

yeah I know what you mean
i doubt i'm gonna switch right away since migrating to a new program would be kinda hard w/ the skype group I'm in

oh yeah for sure, that's also another issue, convincing all your friends and groupies to convert
reminds me of http://www.raidcall.com/index.html

Its pretty so I downloaded it but I have no use for it what-so-ever as I dont ever group chat with people...

ayyy

"Encrypted server to client communication keeps your IP address safe"
uh
"Stop getting ganked because you're logged into Skype"
What?

it's very possible to get DDoS'd using skype. several guides are available for the malicious. that's why discord has that in place.

You can ddos someone whether they're using Skype or not, all you need is their IP.
Also, they didn't say ddos, they said gank
Which, in MMO lingo (which is what this seems marketed towards), is when you're attacked by multiple players or one much higher level player, and you don't stand a chance against them. I don't see how Skype is relevant to that

Also I'm questioning the encryption claim they're making; you can encrypt the body of a message, sure, but IP addresses have to remain unencrypted, or the routers don't know how to route them. The only way I see around this is Tor, but I'd think that would be too slow for real time streaming, and any slowdown in something as critical as gaming communication isn't worth tinfoil-hat level comforts. If you're worried about your friends grabbing your IP from Skype and ddosing you, get better friends

Or maybe it's routed through a central server, thus never revealing your own IP to anyone? Encryption is also incredibly fast, unless you're using a 1990s processor it won't slow anything down.

Also, it's not JUST your friends that can DDoS you through skype. Anyone that knows your skype name can.

I enjoyed it a lot but I wish more people would use it

But Teamspeak already does that, and that's what they're trying to replace. Also, that's not encryption, and that's what they're claiming they're doing

I'm not talking about any old encryption, I'm talking about onion routing. Again, encrypting a message does not encrypt the IPs. If it did, the routers wouldn't know where to send it to. Onion routing is a way around this, but...Have you ever used Tor? It's not exactly optimized for speed. It's an encryption later, set of keys, etc, for every single router you travel through. I think it might need to travel through special routers tat know how to do the encryption.

-snip-
I don't think they're claiming it uses onion routing... In fact, they're extremely vague on how it works. Personally, I'd like a more detailed explanation before any assumptions are made.

I never said they are
I just said that's the only way they could be doing what their vague wording suggests they're doing

They're probably just using regular encryption, but stretching the truth/dumbing it down to appeal to people who don't understand
